Nurse Mercy, fondly known as “the nurse with a difference,” has had a profoundly impactful career spanning over six decades. Born and raised in Itam LGA, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, Mercy’s passion for healthcare was ignited at a young age by a tragic incident during her high school years at Cornelia Connelly College. The substandard care she received not only left her devastated but also fueled a determination to bring about a change. This resolve earned her the moniker “the nurse with a difference,” a title bestowed upon her by employers, community, and family throughout her distinguished career.
Driven by her passion, Mercy pursued a career in nursing, a vocation that became her life’s calling. Throughout her career, she has served in various capacities, from bedside care to administrative roles, consistently striving to provide the highest standard of care to her patients. With the help of God, she made a significant difference in the lives of many, ensuring that by God’s grace, no patient died under her watch during her active years of service and volunteer community support.
Although she officially retired at the age of 79, Mercy’s dedication to the nursing profession remains steadfast. She continues to advocate for excellence in patient care and supports initiatives that advance the nursing field. Additionally, she is the author of “NURSE MERCY,” a memoir that chronicles her experiences and aims to inspire and educate both aspiring and current nurses.
Mercy’s professional journey is guided by a deep belief in compassionate and respectful care for every patient.
