Dr. Chioma Don-Lawson is a Chemist, she obtained a BSc Honours in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Benin in 1982, an MSc. in Analytical Chemistry (with distinction) and a Sigma Aldrich Award winner for the best graduating MSc. Student of the University of Wales Bangor in 2009, and a
Ph.D in Organic Chemistry also from the University of Wales, Bangor, North Wales in the United Kingdom in 2012.
Employed as an assistant lecturer in School of Basic Studies now Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic in 1983, Dr. Chioma Don – Lawson rose through the ranks to the peak of her career as a chief lecturer. She was Head of the Department of Physical Sciences (2002 – 2004) and the Dean, School of Science and Technology (2021 – 2022). She transferred her services to the Rivers State University in 2022 and she is presently a senior lecturer in the department of Chemistry. This erudite scholar has exhibited great skills and interest in her chosen area. She has continued in teaching and research and has to her credit several journal publications and conference papers which are not only recognized locally but internationally.
Dr. Chioma Don-Lawson by virtue of her strides in her carrier is a member of notable professional bodies worldwide. She is an Associate of the Higher Education Academy [AHEA] U.K, a Member of the Royal Society of Chemists [MRSC] U.K, Fellow of the Chemical Society of Nigeria [FCSN], Fellow of the Institute of Chattered Chemists of Nigeria [FICCON] and doubles as a Chapter Coordinator and a National Vice Coordinator of Women in Technical Education and Employment [WITED] Nigeria. She is also a member of the Committee of Practice for the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Association of Technical Universities and Polytechnics in Africa (ATUPA) and Women in STEM TVET – WITED project otherwise referred to as the [CAWS WITED] project. In addition, she is a recipient of the University of Benin Alumni Association “Outstanding Alumni Award” and the Rotary Club “Professional Service Award.”
She is very much into charity and philanthropy, partnering with mission agencies such as Calvary Ministries (CAPRO) missions and International Christian Growth Foundation (ICGF). She was ordained a Licensed Lay Reader of the Diocese of the Niger Delta North, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion in 1999.
